Licensing and Certification
Every pesticide application Bobby Bugs performs is done by or under the supervision of a New York State certified commercial pesticide applicator. New York's Environmental Conservation Law section 33-0905 requires anyone who engages in the commercial application of pesticides to be certified by the Department of Environmental Conservation and to hold a valid identification card. What the certification categories cover
The DEC defines the categories. Category 7A, Structural and Rodent Control, covers the control of rodents, roaches, ants, fleas, ticks and stinging and biting insects within or associated with structures, and the DEC notes that this category does not include termiticides. Category 7C, Termite Control, is the category to identify and treat termite species. Together they cover everything on our services list, from mice and roaches to carpenter ants, wasps, ticks, and termite treatment.
How New York certifies a commercial applicator
The DEC's path to full commercial applicator certification requires either years of verifiable full-time experience as a commercial apprentice or technician in the category, or a qualifying degree, plus passing a core exam and a separate exam for each category. Certified commercial applicators can use or supervise the use of general use and restricted use pesticides. The certification does not last forever. The DEC's recertification cycle is every 3 years, with continuing education credits required in each category held; the DEC lists 12 credits for category 7A and 8 credits for category 7C per cycle.
How to verify any applicator in New York
The DEC runs a public lookup called the Bureau of Pesticides Management Information Portal, where anyone can verify the certification status of a pesticide applicator or technician. Search by name or certification number. We put the link on this page and on every content page on this site because the check takes thirty seconds and you should do it for anyone who treats your home. If a company will not give you an applicator's name and number, that is your answer.
Insurance
Bobby Bugs carries general liability insurance, and a certificate of insurance is available on request for any residential or commercial job.
Labels and the law
Federal law makes it unlawful to use any registered pesticide in a manner inconsistent with its labeling, and that applies to everyone, licensed or not. On our jobs that means the product, the rate, the placement, and the re-entry instructions come from the label, and we walk you through them before we start. It is also why we say no to some requests: fogging a kitchen for roaches, loose poison in a garage, or a product that is not labeled for the pest or the site.
