Northport is a small incorporated village, 7,347 people on 2.53 square miles, and it's one of the oldest and best preserved on the North Shore. The settlers called it Great Cow Harbour, shipbuilding made it the most flourishing village on the North Shore by 1874, it incorporated in 1894, and the trolley that ran down Main Street from 1902 to 1924 left its tracks in the pavement where you can still see them. Four 620-foot stacks at the power station in Fort Salonga mark the eastern edge of the area we cover.
